Salman Khan emerges victorious
The actor beat professional jockeys to win a 600 metres exhibition race

VEER@OPSTUBE.COM

It was almost a Bollywood-like photo-finish at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse on Sunday afternoon as Salman Khan, riding the stallion Wild Rose, fought off a stiff challenge from professional jockeys Mallesh Nareddu, YS Srinath and B Prakash and two amateurs, to win a 600 metres exhibition race at the Hello! Million.

It was a promotion event for his Friday release Veer (produced by Vijay Gallani for Eros International Media Ltd), in which the Bollywood hunk plays a swashbuckling, horse-riding warrior, but Salman threw himself into preparation days before the race.

He is a trained rider, in case you don’t know, and among his close buddies are several professional jockeys.

With the entire Khan-daan sitting in the Members’ Enclosure of the Turf Club and cheering him lustily, Salman took the finish like a pro, glancing over his shoulder triumphantly at the field a short head behind. He was riding with broken stirrups. But that kind of victory in the face of daunting circumstances, you could have expected from the action hero.

Salman said, “I was nervous, but I won because of God’s grace, and I’m happy about that. There was a slight moment of panic when my stirrups broke… but then; ultimately, it was all good.” The competing jockeys thought he was fantastic in the saddle, the Turf Club members mobbed the actor, and the Mahalaxmi Racecourse enjoyed its day in the sun.

Technology Predictions for 2010
By: Businessweek

OPSTUBE.COM

With solid product introductions ranging from the iPhone 3GS to Windows 7, 2009 was a good year for technology. 2010 appears poised to build on the strength of trends already in place: greater mobility, a heightened awareness of data security , and web-enabled products and applications that focus on collaboration and interoperability. Here’s a taste of what’s in store.
Smartphones Over Netbooks

Netbook sales took off over the past few years, and for good reason: these tiny, light computers were tailor-made for the mobile user who increasingly performed most office-related activity online. Netbooks provide some of the convenience and functionality of a full-fledged notebook while weighing less than half of even the lightest units and boasting battery life that can in some cases take you through an entire day without recharging.

But many netbook users quickly bump up against the limitations built in to this form factor. Screens are cramped, and processors are barely adequate for running Windows. In addition, a notebook computer even if tiny and lightweight is still a notebook computer, requiring you to stash it, and the inevitable accessories, in some bag that you have to carry around with you.

As smart phones get smarter and more capable, though, many are finding that they provide a reasonable and in some cases even preferable alternative to the netbook. Expect that trend to pick up steam in 2010. Surf the web on a smartphone? No problem. Send and receive e-mail? No problem? Put a smartphone in your pocket? Of course. Smartphones vs. netbook? Unless netbooks start offering much more, expect smartphones to get the nod in 2010.

http://Windows 7 On USB@OPSTUBE.COM

Installation of Windows 7 through a USB drive makes a lot of sense. For one, its a much faster process than installing from a DVD. Also, it becomes a lot easier for those with tiny Netbooks or laptops without an optical drive. What’s more, you get to keep your installation file on your hard drive, eliminating the need for third part softwares to make ISO images and infringing copyright. Its quite simple, really, Microsoft released the open source USB/DVD download tool that creates a bootable USB stick from a Windows 7 install DVD. “As we previously explained, the testing and localization took longer than we expected, but the project is now hosted on CodePlex.com, Microsoft’s Open Source software project hosting repository, and the code can be found here,” explained Peter Galli, Open Source Community Manager for Microsoft. “Also, as a result of some necessary changes, while the user experience of the tool will be the same as before, the install involves additional steps. Originally, for the convenience of customers, we aggregated together additional files, which are separate freestanding executables.” Galli added. In case you’re interested, you can head over to the Microsoft Store to buy the tool. As we reported earlier, China is pirating Windows 7 which is uploaded on USB drives sold for a paltry 98 yuan, or about $14 (Rs 670). The pen drive in question here is the Netac U208 8GB USB drive and features Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer’s signature on the outside.
